Simply Health

I heard a story once about a man, nearing the end of his life and experiencing a severe case of diabetes, who ate 12 rich, sugary scones for breakfast every day. When confronted by his son about this obviously unhealthy choice the man stated, "I'd rather die happy than healthy." And finished his scones.

Now, I love a good pastry as much as the next person, but I couldn't help feeling shocked and heartbroken at the old man's response. When did happiness and health become mutually exclusive? Why do we feel like choosing the healthy option means losing out on the happiness and pleasure of life? And does this mean that choosing happiness makes us less healthy? I cannot believe it. In my study and experience, health and happiness are one and the same. We cannot be truly happy unless we are healthy and we're not completely healthy if we're not happy.

In the words of psychotherapist, Dorothea Hover-Kramer, "To heal or make well [implies] restoring a sense of balance and harmony that goes beyond merely overcoming an illness... Healing...is a multidimensional, ongoing, lifelong process toward wholeness, balance, and harmony from within... Healing is open-ended and allows [one] to explore the many possibilities for emotional, mental, and spiritual balancing, even in the face of chronic or terminal physical illness."

Healing is multidimensional. Whole health involves far more than the mere presence or absence of recognizable illness. Just because we aren't sick doesn't mean we are healthy. Physical wellbeing is an aspect of whole health, but having positive, supportive relationships, a sense of purpose, spirituality, and emotional and mental wellbeing matter just as much, if not more.

My goal as a life coach, nutritional herbal consultant, emotional wellness counselor, and person is to facilitate whole health. I have made it my goal to study health from as many different perspectives as I can. I have delved into and offer a wide range of therapies, remedies, and solutions. I've studied everything from water to psychology to nutrition and herbs to Traditional Chinese Medicine. I've divided all my areas of study into two main categories -- Nutritional Herbal Consulting & Emotional Health Counseling.

Emotional Wellness Counseling:

In 2018, I graduated from a 645 hour certification course in Integrative Processing Technique (IPT) from The Institute of Healing Arts. IPT is a unique and highly effective tool for facilitating the release of the heavy and negative emotions, beliefs, habits, and thoughts that accumulate as we experience the stresses and traumas of life.

IPT uses a combination of tools found in various other types of therapy including bio-kinesiology, role play, visualization and guided imagery, breath work, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), affirmations, and psycho-neuro immunology.

I love IPT because it integrates healing throughout both the energetic and physical bodies as well as affecting and healing past, present, and future. When we experience trauma or injury at any age the emotions, beliefs, and coping mechanisms we develop to deal with the trauma remain with us, affecting how we interact with others and our world until and unless we address and change those old patterns. Research also shows that heavy emotions are often held in different organs and areas of the body and when those are released the organs are better able to function at full capacity. A literal weight is taken off the body as emotions are released. It feels amazing! IPT works to clear up the mental, emotional, and physical effects of trauma at every age to create a whole healing.

I also love that IPT is one of the only therapies (that I am aware of) that has been designed for both adults and children of any age. The technique works and can be adapted to young children, teenagers, adults, and even infants in the womb! And it works. And it is powerful!

Pricing:

1st Visit: $85, 2-hour initial interview/session.

If you're coming specifically for an IPT session I won't ask as many questions about your health history, however because physical and emotional/mental health are so interconnected, I do try to get a basic idea of your nutritional and lifestyle habits. I may occasionally recommend a supplement, herb, or other remedy if I feel it may help support you as you work to release and cleanse difficult emotions. Because of the extra questions the initial visit takes a little longer :)

Follow-up Visits: $65 for 1-1.5 hour sessions.

I usually suggest that IPT sessions occur every 1-2 weeks depending on what you feel works best. Individuals experiencing a lot of trauma and heaviness coming up all at once might need more frequent sessions for a while. Others may have longer-term projects that can be worked through every-other week. I may have a recommendation at times, but will always leave the frequency of sessions up to you.

Also, I prefer that the initial few visits take place in person, however, as you become familiar with the process and technique we can conduct sessions over the phone to reduce travel time. I feel like the sense of connection and support is enhanced in-person, but the process itself works just as effectively over the phone so the choice is yours.

Nutritional Herbal Consulting:

I am a Family & Nutritional Herbalist certified at The School of Natural Healing, and am currently working toward becoming a Vitalist Herbal Practitioner through the school of Evolutionary Herbalism. I also have two years of experience as a wellness consultant at a health food store where I gained extensive knowledge of nutrition and supplements.

While I am well-prepared to offer supplement and herbal suggestions and create formulas for a variety of health complaints, I have been taught and firmly believe that true health is based in 5 lifestyle factors: a balanced diet, proper hydration (both water and oil), exercise and movement, good sleep and oxygenation, and living your purpose. To that end, all my suggestions eventually work their way back to lifestyle choices. Herbs and supplements are amazing and can provide relief, nourishment, and healing, but healing only lasts if you live a life that lets you heal. I'm here to support you in the pursuit of whole health in any way I can.

Pricing:

1st Visit: $85, 2-hour intake interview.

During this visit I will ask a lot of questions to get a comprehensive picture of your health journey throughout your entire life as well as what you hope to gain out of working with me (eg. what specific health goals or issues are you hoping to address?).

Follow-up Visits: $65 for 1-1.5 hour sessions.

Depending on what we are working on together these follow-up sessions may include more questions, discussion and life coaching, herbal remedy or supplement suggestions, a trip to the grocery store/cooking lessons, and/or a combination of herbal advice & emotional health work (see below).

Research:

If I need to take time outside of regular sessions to do research and formulation for your specific case I charge $15 an hour for any time spent reviewing notes, identifying specific remedies, and compiling formulas and suggestions. On average this takes 1-2 hours depending on the research needed.

Formulas:

If a specific herbal formula is recommended I can create the formula for you. There will be an additional cost of the time and materials required depending on the complexity of your specific formula. I DO NOT use proprietary formulas and will provide you with the ingredients and proportions for every formula designed with you in mind. I will also inform you of the estimated cost of your formula ahead of time should you want me to create it for you.
